Dr. Hossam Badrawi delivers the main lecture in the Be an Ambassador initiative
At the invitation of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the Strong Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, Prof. Dr. Hossam Badrawi gave an important lecture today to 100 young participants from various governorates of the Republic within the Be an Ambassador initiative
The lecture was about integrating the philosophy of sustainable development into education
The Be an Ambassador initiative aims to spread community awareness of sustainable development and the UN goals. Therefore, an awareness initiative aimed specifically at youth was thought of.
Dr. Badrawi also spoke about the future of education, development and health care in Egypt and about the importance of sustainable human development in developing society and building community leaders.
From the sayings of Dr. Hossam in the lecture:
Knowledge is the pillar of development and is the gateway to the levels of progress that we all aspire to.
Knowledge is reflected in the development of the economy, politics, society as a whole, and in all aspects of human activity, and knowledge has played a decisive role throughout the ages in the rise and fall of nations and in shaping present and future directions.
He said, “People are the main goal of human development, and they are also the main tool for achieving this development.
Development, in this sense, does not only mean increasing the wealth or income of society or even individuals, but rather improving their cultural, social, health and educational conditions, empowering them politically, activating their participation in society, and making good use of their energies and abilities to serve themselves and their communities.
The weakness of human capabilities is the opposite of development, as it is more severe and has more impact on all aspects of life because it limits the capabilities of citizens and society as a whole to make the best use of their human and material resources alike.
He added, “Human development has two aspects:
The first is to build human capacity to improve health, knowledge and skills.
The second is the benefit of people from their acquired abilities in leisure time and for the purposes of production and activity in the field of culture, society and politics.
Therefore, income is only one of the options, and the annual increase in the national product is a necessary condition for human development, but it is not a sufficient condition. The important thing is to serve the people.
He talked about Egypt’s vision in education 2030, which Dr. Badrawi supervised its formulation and explained its five axes.
The first axis: Education available to all, of high quality, without discrimination.
The second axis: the existence of an efficient, fair and sustainable institutional framework for the management and governance of the education, research and development process at the central level down to the decentralized level in the governorates, up to the management of schools.
The third axis: technological and digital empowerment of the pupil, student, teacher and teaching staff in the school and university and the development of means and methods of teaching, research and evaluation.
The fourth axis: building the integrated personality of the student and the student in all its aspects so that he becomes a proud citizen, who is proud of himself, enlightened, creative, proud of his country and its history, passionate about building its future, capable of difference and open to pluralism. Note that this cannot be done without culture, art, music and exercise.
The fifth axis: that the graduate be an initiator who has the ability to adapt to the changes around him, create new job opportunities, and be able to compete with his peers at the local, regional, and global levels.
