THE EGYPTIAN LEBANESE PUBLISHING HOUSE REVEALED “MAN OF THE STORM” BOOK ABOUT DR. HOSSAM BADRAWI POLITICAL JOURNEY, BY JOURNALIST AHMED MUBARAK.

During the current Book Fair session, Egyptian Lebanese Publishing House revealed its latest versions: book titled “Man Of The Storm”, by Journalist Ahmed Mubarak. The book includes Dr. Hossam Badrawi’s political journey and many secrets during the 25th January events, especially when the events focused on Dr. Badrawi upon taking over secretariat of the ruling party for 4 days during the revolution. However, he resigned before Mubarak’s stepped down after he had failed to find a political solution for the crisis. He announced his disagreement with the country leadership in the way of dealing with and responding to demonstrators.

The book was introduced by Dr. Refaat El-Saeed, former chairman of Tagammu Party, Dr. Mohamed Makhzangi, Scholar and Writer, George Isaac, Politician and Activist, Dr. Mostafa El-Feki, Veteran Politician, Dr. Kadry Hefny, Writer and Professor and Dr. Osama Hamdy, Egyptian Scientist in the United States of America.

The writer says in the book introduction, “Scrutiny and correlated reading about Dr. Hossam Badrawi’s journey in the Egyptian political society, especially his composite relation with the National Party, was bigger than being a private experience. In my point of view, it is a mirror that reflects the political journey of Egypt in a critical historical period. His unique story showed “how” contradictory scenarios were close to each other, resulting in 25th January then 30th June, followed with events and consequences. This motivated me to put before you what I recorded in my meetings with Dr. Hossam Badrawi while making a documentary film about the revolution and its incidents. I added the certificates made available to me about Dr. Badrawi and a documented press archive of his thoughts, ideas and situations to reveal a more complete and clearer picture about the story of the storm that shook Egypt through a journey of a man I called “Man Of The Strom.”

We read a part of the book introductions where Dr. Refaat El-Saeed wrote, “Hossam Badrawi carries an axe trying to build a new political path flowing new, clear, pure Egyptian taste water. Dr. Badrawi was not “Sisyphos”, the Greek god who was sentenced by god to climb up while carrying a rock until he approaches the top and the rock descends down; he tries to prevent it but in vain according to the Greek legend. But Dr. Badrawi had confidence on the millions of Egyptians who gathered or being gathered in the ruling party, hoping it will cause a crack in the ruling party that would contribute to Sisyphos having come up with his rock to give a way to a movement that would impose new administration and new hopes”.

Dr. Mostafa El-Feki said, “I saw Hossam Badrawi in the presence of rulers and with the poor. I witness that in both cases he was a righteous man to homeland, faithful to its just cases, dedicated to serving its citizens and seeking to rationalize the policies of the state at home and abroad. When January 25, 2011 Revolution started, the furious scene found only “Hossam Badrawi” as a bridge through which the regime crosses from one stage to another. Despite all the mysterious repercussions and the successive circumstances, his name remained pure and clear. I personally attended one closed meeting in which “Hossam Badrawi” courageously rejected the extension of emergency law and amending Article 77, in the presence of officials and decision makers.”

George Isaac, in his introduction of the book, said, “Hossam’s situations towards human rights are worth mentioning. He defended it at a time when no one could defend human rights in this period, because the regime at the time wanted ineffective human rights. Badrawi was able to highlight the importance of human rights in Egypt, which deteriorated today. Despite all the criticism I told against Hossam Badrawi, I believe he is loyal to this country through his positive projects that must be viewed with all care and respect. I also believe that he is a talented man that should be sought in the drought period we experience. I believe there are men like Dr. Hossam Badrawi who can build a modern, democratic and civil Egypt.”

Dr. Mohamed Makhzangi wrote, “He was a really different man in the party; he was away from governmental positions because they saw it as an exit from the squadron of executives in it. But they did not overthrow him for reasons like his quiet and logical inputs and some intelligence or rather political “vileness.” That’s why they keep him among them: to say that difference with them is available and protected and to reduce making more opponents. His logical, free-from-any-political-exaggeration situations and his personal and civilized character as professor of medicine attracted a wide segment of lovers and followers”.

Dr. Osama Hamdy introduced the book saying, “The talented writer Ahmed Mubarak engaged deeply into the events which Egypt went through in its most difficult years in modern times. He pointed out, without any exaggeration, how Hossam Badrawi was a witness to, a participant in or commented on these events. He documented events accurately through interviews conducted with him or published about him. A conscious reader will promptly and clearly discover a style that does not change in Dr. Badrawi’s personality. Through that style you can expect what he will say or do in every event that Egypt has gone through in the past twenty years. He is honest and with no pretense. He is peaceful with himself and others. He does not change or replace his principles to go with events. He is brave in his situations who defend it desperately even if it costs him much. He is creative in a society full of obsolete ideas. He is open-minded man at a time of closed minds. He is a thinker in an age when brains stopped thinking. He is academic who knows how to arrange his thoughts with a sound logic. The reader will find how Dr. Badrawi’s wisdom was ahead to the events, and how his opinions predicted the future as if he was reading transparently in his magical crystallization.

I know that the reader of this interesting book will say if only we listened to Dr. Badrawi and did what he recommended us to do. His ideas on developing education can regain the leadership to Egypt and put it among advanced countries in a few years. A reader of his book about education will find an integrated policy, and accurate and conscious planning of Egypt educational future. Anyone that listens to his political and economical opinions and his vision of political reform and social Justice will see a clear program to move Egypt forward to broad prospects of progress and prosperity.

Dr. Kadry Hefny wrote, “Dr. Hossam Badrawi’s personality essence is the ability to gain the respect of his adversaries, despite his disagreement with them. It is not an easy matter as it requires the other’s certainty. Badrawi says what he is really convinced with. His behavior reflects his conviction. He neither maneuvers nor deceives. He is always a man of his word. He is able to convince another who is different that he may condemn his ideas, but never despise them or lessen his right to be different.
