How does education succeed in combating the culture of violence and hate speech?

a. Dr.. Hossam Badrawi writes for Al-Azhar newspaper:

How does education succeed in combating the culture of violence and hate speech?
I chose an entrance that might be somewhat different from what we are accustomed to in talking about what we should put in the Azharite or general education curricula, and how we can put forward the foundations of human rights concepts as mentioned in the Holy Qur’an and the purified Sunnah of the Prophet, as well as Al-Azhar documents, the most important of which are those issued in 2011. It resulted in measures taken by the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, to develop the discourse of coexistence in general and to promote it in Egypt and abroad, and to strengthen Al-Azhar’s curricula with ideas about citizenship and coexistence. But the matter still requires more effort and focus, especially since educational institutions are public and Azharite, in which the child and young man spend from the age of 4 to 22 or 23 years, which is not a short period of his life, in which his conscience and his mind are formed. Unfortunately, after our children graduate from these educational institutions in general and Azhar, you find in them extremists and those who are unable to accept pluralism, which is the reality of life in our world, and who do not believe in citizenship, which is the basis of our constitution, which makes many educational methods and curricula need correction.
In Dr. Taha Hussein’s famous book “The Future of Culture in Egypt,” he spoke about illiteracy in two sentences, which I remember well. He said that literacy is not the illiteracy of reading and writing, but the illiteracy of reading, writing and understanding, because if we eradicate the illiteracy of reading and writing without understanding, there will be someone who reads and does not Understood, and became susceptible to being controlled by those who think. The issue is not reading and writing, but it is a matter that includes a depth of understanding, the ability to choose, make a decision, and distinguish between right and wrong.. It is the idea that I believe that the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed al-Tayeb, set out from to show his strategy in developing Azharic education capable of pluralism and curricula recognizing diversity, which I touched. By myself, in the Islamic culture curriculum, which he decided on for students in the preparatory and secondary stages, and supervised his writing himself, to include clear lessons on citizenship, women’s rights, and combating extremist ideas, other than purifying what is taught to the student from the content of heritage books that are conditional on understanding, not just reading and writing.
Education and the World The issue of education is a cross-border issue. The foundations of education are the same in all its types, and there is no such thing as Egyptian, Arab or foreign education, except in realizing the pillars of building conscience. Education is one because it is based on one foundation, and development follows the same path, but in another. 10 years ago, something happened that did not exist before, and technology became a major imposition in education in the whole world because education is changing completely in its means and means of delivering knowledge to the student.
Knowledge has become available to everyone at no cost, so the role of education has changed from merely transferring knowledge to the minds of the student to coexisting with the student in school and university. For education, but a model for coexistence in the 21st century. Educational institutions, which are skills. Why did you intend this entry? Because he says that it is possible to develop education and use the means of development and succeed in a superior manner, so that the innovator, the scientist, the creative, the genius and the enlightened sheikh will graduate, but at the same time, the extremist in thought and the violent in action may emerge. The issue, then, is not the introduction of a method to prevent violence, but rather a way of life within the educational institution from which this young man or woman emerges, who is able to distinguish between right and wrong, and to live in a framework that respects the rights of others without the excessive violence that exists in modern societies. The making of conscience takes place in the institutions of education, the family, the media, and the atmosphere of general culture and the arts. And education now, whether written or curricular, we agree that it is not taught, but rather new things overlap in it such as
Toys, electronics, the use of the Internet and access to unlimited knowledge, and we have to exploit it to achieve our goals of education, the most important of which is to think about how to use the tools of the age to create conscience that allows tolerance, acceptance of others and peace with oneself and with others as is the essence of the true religion.
During the past three years, I had the opportunity to be the head of the committee formed by the government to set the vision of education 2030 in Egypt, and I would like to share it with you because if we do not have a vision, then there will be no policies for implementation, and if we do not have state policies, they accumulate Over the years to give a specific message, hatred will increase and extremism will increase because it is a fixed methodology that unfortunately is around us and without the direction of a state, our efforts will not be fruitful.
The vision of education in Egypt This vision says: that education be available to all without discrimination of high quality, available within an efficient, just, sustainable, flexible, and learner-centric institutional framework, enabled by technology, and contribute to building an integrated personality and unleashing its capabilities to the fullest extent for a proud and enlightened citizen Creative and responsible, respectful of difference, proud of his country’s history, passionate about building its future, and able to deal competitively with regional and global entities. The goal is not to obtain a certificate or just receive knowledge or even obtain knowledge because it has become available to anyone who wants, but the goal has become to build an integrated personality for the citizen.
Wisdom and experience say: There is no education system that rises above the level of its teachers. Knowledge in the religious and public educational institution, we must define our goal to raise the level of the teacher and the level of education together.
The second wisdom says that to improve the level of education, a climate must be created for the learner. If the environment for education is ugly and lacking in beauty, then do not expect the learner to love beauty or to be clear. Also, if the climate is full of lies and dishonesty, then we should not wait for education to improve.

Z to a higher level we think will exist alone.
The third wisdom reminds us of what separates man from other creatures, and what has God placed in man that distinguishes him from them? The answer is imagination, dream and accumulation of knowledge. If we ask ourselves who are the most imaginative people in society, we find that they are children. In childhood, the first four years are the most important in the school years, and I would even say that the first nine months in the mother’s womb may have an impact, and this leads us to wonder where to direct our children’s imagination ? If we reflect on what we offer our children, we will find that violence is filled with violence, as most games are full of violence, and most cinematic films are full of violence, even animated films are full of violence. Tolerant, rather it is living and accumulating experiences.. We want more creativity in introducing mechanisms that reduce the desire for violence and extremism.
It is the responsibility of states, governments and civil society, and we must show real seriousness in dealing with this matter. Without doing these new concepts and integrating them and the way they work in new technologies, it is very difficult to expect a new generation that is more creative, more genius and less extreme.
