An important interview with Dr. Hossam Badrawi on BBC Arabic:
In a reading of the presidential election scene in Egypt, Dr. Hossam Badrawi says that political parties either have a parliamentary majority and rule, or they are opposition parties, and that the so-called loyalist parties must join the ruling party.
This is if Egypt has a ruling party at all.
– He says that the ruling party, while respecting its personalities, is a party that represents the executive authority, and does not form the government, but rather is under its will.
Dr. Hossam says that any citizen has the right to nominate himself, and that he rejected the constitutional amendment to allow a third term for any president because the goal is the transfer of power, which is the value and positive result that may be the only result of the January Revolution.
If the amendment was approved by the people, they respect it.
– Dr. confirms. Hossam does not have the right to ask President Sisi not to run for office, but his point of view is that if he does not, he will enter history.
– Dr. said. Hossam said that the political situation is very complicated because there are no alternatives before the people and no real choices except for the matter to remain as it is, and since all the strings are in the hands of the president now to lead a change in the situation in a way that allows for the existence of alternatives, his responsibility is very great.
-Dr. said. Hossam said that any civilian president must agree with the military establishment first, otherwise he will not be able to rule in light of the current regional conditions.
-Dr. said. Hossam said that alternating power is the only way to prevent dictatorial rule and the spread of corruption. This is not an accusation against anyone, but rather the experience of history and the reality of politics in the entire world.
-Dr. said. Hossam also said that he respects the candidate Ahmed Al-Tantawi for his insistence, but he represents a left-wing Nasserist movement that contradicts Dr. Hossam, the social liberal politician
