At the invitation of Dr. Nihal Fahmy, United Nations Advisor and responsible for the Cultural Committee of the Lions Club in Egypt and the Cultural Committee of the Egyptian Automobile Club, and under the patronage of the Governor of the region, Eng. Hatem Abdel Khaleq, and the hospitality of Mr. Mohamed Askar and Dr. Nabil El-Bashbishi, a symposium and book signing ceremony for Dr. Hossam Badrawy was held yesterday evening, Wednesday, November 8, 2023. “Me and the Memes” published by Dar Al-Mahrousa, where Dr. Nihal Fahmy introduced Dr. Hossam Badrawi, reviewing many of his achievements and his abundant and varied activity, whether in art, medicine, politics, education, or sports. Then she reviewed Dr. Badrawy’s writings over the past years, then reviewed some of what was said about Dr. Badrawy in the book. The topic of the symposium began with what Dr. Mustafa Al-Feki said and his comparison of Dr. Hossam Badrawi to the polymath Dr. Tharwat Okasha, and also what Dr. Ahmed Okasha said and his praise of what Dr. Badrawi presented in his enlightenment campaign through which he helps understand many of the mysteries of life, and then finally what Murad Wahba said about Dr. Badrawi that he is a fabric. He is unique, whether in his formulation of his book or what is included in it.
Then Dr. Badrawi gave his speech about his book, The Topic of the Party, in which he defined the meaning of memes, which in the English language means idea or action. Dr. Badrawi pointed out that there is genetics and there is also a science called memes. Genetics studies the biological development of humans, as there are trillions in humans. Cells, and in each cell there are genes that multiply and are passed from generation to generation, causing mutations and leaving the fittest among them. Then Dr. Badrawi gave an example of mutations and talked about imagination, since the human ability to imagine did not exist until 30 thousand years ago. Before that, man was not able to Imagination, and Dr. Badrawi turned to the science of memes, explaining that it is similar to the science of genetics. Memes are the unit that carries ideas. Ideas multiply, develop, and cause mutations. Then Dr. Badrawi gave an example of the mutations of memes, speaking about values, since understanding these values was known to the same concept in… Every place and among all people of all kinds, and as in genes, ideas undergo mutations.. Dr. pointed out. Hossam to his conversations with children and young people about human values and how their interaction differed with the values of patience and sacrifice. Then Dr. Badrawi asked the audience to pay attention, as there is another aspect of the similarity of memes with genes, which is that just as we have been able today to change with science the “natural development of genes” and give genetic outcomes that did not exist. Before, this is also what happens in memes as a result of the development taking place in social media and intelligence frameworks in the world. We have begun to create ideas that did not exist by nature and did not have a prior idea. We can say that they came as a result of their natural development.
There are those who fight to make this a natural right, and Dr. Badrawi stated that he narrated all of this so that the listener becomes aware of the meaning of the memes, which is the name of the book, and what are the memes that shaped his conscience, developed his ideas, and created within him new meanings to understand life and the truth of things. Good ideas are ideas that can To continue and extend, and they are not ideas that are suitable for the past and cannot face the future.
Dr. Badrawi then reviewed the chapters of the book that talks about how conscience is formed, stressing that nothing comes from a vacuum and we must all think about what led to the formation of conscience within us. Then Dr. Badrawi spoke about his teachers who influenced his personality and made him love the Arabic language, history, the English language, and scientific research. Then Dr. Badrawi turned to the personalities he mentioned in his book and who shaped his conscience, namely Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Khaled Muhammad Khaled, Ihsan Abdul Quddus, Gibran Khalil Gibran, Dr. Zaki Naguib Mahmoud, Professor Al-Aqqad, Taha Hussein, Imam Muhammad Abdo, and Zaki Najib Mahmoud, then he talked about them and how they influenced him. They enhanced his abilities and understanding of matters with wisdom and depth.
Then, in the book, Badrawi turned to pleasure and happiness and the difference between them, that happiness is prolonged, while pleasure is momentary and ends quickly. He talked about how we create happiness for ourselves and always be positive, stressing that happiness must be sought and created. He pointed out that we do not feel beautiful except when we lose a part of it, and then everything is affected. Other parts do not see beauty and feel pain.
Dr. Badrawi then spoke about the impact of collective thought and how a nation triumphs with collective thought if it is positive, and how it is destructive if collective thought is negative.
Dr. finished the talk by expressing his happiness and appreciation to the attendees, then everyone bombarded Dr. Badrawi with questions with great enthusiasm, approval and enjoyment from the attendees who gathered around Dr. Badrawi at the end of the meeting to take memorial shots with him in an atmosphere full of love and respect.
The following were present on the dialogue platform:

About Dr. Hossam Badrawi

Dr. Hossam Badrawi
He is a politician, intellect, and prominent physician. He is the former head of the Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine Cairo University. He conducted his post graduate studies from 1979 till 1981 in the United States. He was elected as a member of the Egyptian Parliament and chairman of the Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Parliament from 2000 till 2005. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. Dr. Hossam supported the Tamarod movement in its beginning and he declared that toppling the Brotherhood was a must and a pressing risk that had to be taken few months prior to the June 30 revolution and confirmed that the army would support the legitimacy given by the people
