The opening ceremony of the fifth session of the Cairo International Forum for University Theater was held yesterday, Saturday, October 21, 2023, by the great artist Farida Fahmy, under the slogan “Life is Ours,” at the British University Theater, which is chaired by the founder of the forum, director Amr Kabil, and its supreme committee is headed by Professor Dr. Hossam Badrawy, and includes The committee includes the star artist Tariq Al-Desouki, the writer and author Fatima Naout, and the writer Dr. Amal Siddiq Afifi, and Professor Dr. Samar Saeed, Dean of the Higher Institute of Folk Arts, Secretary-General of the Forum, and Artistic Director of the Forum, the star artist Hossam Dagher. During its previous sessions, the Forum left a great international resonance as a cultural and artistic teacher referred to as Lebanon, and he seeks to participate in its various activities, university students and everyone who shares a passion and love for theater. From different countries of the world.
The ceremony was attended by the author Walid Youssef, the artist Ahmed Abu Rahima, director of the theater management in Sharjah, the artist Abdullah Al-Shehi, director of the Ajman Theater, the artist Tariq Al-Desouki, and the artist Hossam Dagher. Director Amr Kabil, head of the festival, said: “Dear guests of Egypt from everywhere, I did not imagine, as we put the slogan of the fifth session (Life is Ours), that life would put us through this difficult test, and today we answer this test, so our fate, which we chose of our own free will, was the stage through which we pass.” It is about the values of truth, goodness and beauty. Theater is what taught us love and truth, and it is what taught us resistance, and from here we declare and even scream so that our cries reach every violator of a right. You will not be able to take life from us, for life is ours.. The artist Amr Kabil also named the critic in a humanitarian gesture. The late Rana Abu Al-Ezz, who was considered one of the pillars of the Cairo University Theater Forum, received one of the forum’s awards on a permanent basis.
On the other hand, artist Tariq El-Desouki welcomed the guests of the ceremony, stressing that his point of view has always been that by eliminating ignorance, we will eliminate poverty and disease. Adding that the ignorance that he means is not only the ignorance of writing and reading, but what he means is the elimination of all forms of ignorance, and he stressed the importance of awareness, which is the responsibility of drama, theater and the media, as they are capable of building awareness and building the human being in a correct manner with all the cultural and social stock that this identity carries, from Here the interest in this forum was for university theatre, because universities are real laboratories for unloading real talent for young people capable of choosing and young people capable of making decisions.
The ceremony was more than wonderful and was received well by those attending. The forum is organizing its fifth session, from October 21 to 27, 2023. The fifth session of the forum will witness 10 Egyptian, Arab and foreign theatrical performances in the official competition. During this week, the audience of the forum will see three Egyptian and six performances. Arab shows from Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, the Emirates, Tunisia, Morocco, Kuwait, a foreign show from Ghana, a show outside the official competition by the Taiba Academy team, and a theatrical show at the closing ceremony. As witnessed by the activities of the forum, there are 5 competitions accompanying the official competition for performances, and the forum also organizes A special program for the “intellectual framework” for the fifth session, entitled “University Theater…International Demonstrations.”

About Dr. Hossam Badrawi

Dr. Hossam Badrawi
He is a politician, intellect, and prominent physician. He is the former head of the Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine Cairo University. He conducted his post graduate studies from 1979 till 1981 in the United States. He was elected as a member of the Egyptian Parliament and chairman of the Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Parliament from 2000 till 2005. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. Dr. Hossam supported the Tamarod movement in its beginning and he declared that toppling the Brotherhood was a must and a pressing risk that had to be taken few months prior to the June 30 revolution and confirmed that the army would support the legitimacy given by the people
