Archbishop Sami Fawzi welcomed the audience, saying: We are meeting in this holy month at the table of love and unity, as it gives us the opportunity to exchange friendships as one family, where affection is the basis of the relationship that binds all of us, the people of one nation, stressing that sharing at the same table is… A sign of friendliness and love.
Honorary Archbishop Mounir Hanna participated, saying: Al-Azhar Al-Sharif has been a partner of the Episcopal Church since 2002 AD in accordance with the agreement established between the Archbishop of Canterbury and the late Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Dr. Sayyid Al-Tantawi, and this partnership resulted in the establishment of the Christian-Islamic Center affiliated with the Episcopal Church, continuing: Egyptian society faces many challenges. Like any diverse cultural society, it needs the efforts of all societal institutions to maintain the unity of society, as the Episcopal Church works to serve society and preserve its national unity.
Archbishop Mounir Hanna asked Dr. Hossam Badrawi would like to deliver a speech at this forum and present him as a representative of Egyptian civil society who demonstrates citizenship and national unity in everything he says and does, saying that he is a thinker, artist, professor, writer, and friend.
Hossam Badrawi said in his speech: There was no discrimination between us, as the beauty of Egypt is in its diversity, which creates a fabric and artistic palette that is rare in many countries.
He said that Egypt is great with its citizens and deserves to be a great country with its history, the potential of its present, and an optimistic vision for its future.
Dr. Abu Zaid Al-Amir, coordinator of the Egyptian Family House and representative of His Eminence the Grand Imam Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, expressed his thanks to all the organizers of this occasion, adding: Egypt has provided the greatest example of citizenship, and he expressed his hope that this year will be different from any other year because the beginning of the Ramadan fast is united. Copts fast, and this indicates that Egypt is a country of civilization, progress and sophistication.
Dr. Ibrahim Negm, advisor to His Eminence the Mufti of the Republic, spoke, saying: I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to all of you for this invitation in this blessed church and good land, stressing that partnership leads to many solutions, as we have a religious commitment from Islam and Christianity to cooperate in righteousness and piety.
Ambassador Gareth Bailey, the British Ambassador to Egypt, added: “I pray that God will fill us with peace and love in this holy month, especially for our loved ones in Gaza, Sudan and Libya,” adding: “Ramadan in Egypt is something else.”
Counselor Adly Hussein, former governor of Qalyubia, said in his speech: God honored Egypt as no place was honored because it is the only place where God appeared and spoke, and that is in Mount Tur in Egypt, and we will not find any discrimination in Egypt, where His Holiness Pope Tawadros II gave me the honor to be Chairman of the Holy Family Path Council.
Dr. Al-Waez Arafa Muhammad, a representative of Dr. Nazir Ayad from the Islamic Research Academy, stressed that Egypt embodied the spirit of citizenship in it, as the month of Ramadan is the month of tolerance and brotherhood.
Today, Dr. Abdel Moneim Emam, head of the Justice Party, Dr. Kamal Sharubim, former governor of Dakahlia, Ambassador Nuala O’Brien, Irish Ambassador to Egypt, Mehyad Tawakli, Deputy Ambassador of Sweden, Ambassador Raouf Saad, Advisor to the Minister of Environment, Ambassador Abdel Rahman Moussa, Advisor to the Sheikh of Al-Azhar for Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Ibrahim Fawzi, attended today. Former Minister of Industry, Emmanuel Suhr, Second Secretary at the Canadian Embassy, Camille Thibaut, a diplomat at the French Embassy.
Also in attendance were Father Emmanuel Pisani, Director of the Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies, Dr. Azza Ramadan, Professor at Al-Azhar Islamic University, Dr. Ismail Abdullah, Professor of Islamic Studies at Al-Azhar University, Dr. Anwar Othman, Professor of Islamic Studies at Al-Azhar University, and a group of male and female preachers from the Islamic Research Academy.
