Maat Foundation begins procedures for preparing a strategic framework for improving and protecting human rights conditions.
In conjunction with the International Human Rights Day, and against the background of the end of the presentation of Egypt’s file before the Universal Periodic Review in November 2019, the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights hosted the “first high-level expert meeting” to discuss and launch the strategic framework for improving the human rights situation in Egypt in light of the review’s recommendations Universal League (2020-2024).
This comes in implementation of what the Maat Foundation pledged during its symposium held on the sidelines of the meetings of the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism in Geneva, through the symposium held at United Nations Headquarters on November 14, 2019.
A selected group of thinkers, public figures, human rights experts, union leaders and parliamentarians participated in the meeting with the aim of reviewing and discussing the recommendations made to Egypt during the universal periodic review session held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on November 13, 2019, and discussing the draft strategic framework for improving and protecting human rights conditions, which is based on To the recommendations made to Egypt, and takes into account the opportunities, challenges and constitutional, cultural, economic and social contexts.
The participants emphasized that the consensus on preparing and implementing a national strategy to improve and protect the human rights situation in Egypt during the current stage is the responsibility not only of the government, but that the forces of civil society, thought and opinion leaders, and parliament must play a pivotal role in this. Therefore, the Maat Foundation for Peace and Development Human Rights seeks to contribute to this by providing a participatory platform for all these parties, regardless of their political and ideological affiliations, in the context of a positive and constructive national dialogue process that adheres to realism, is ambitious and is open to all concerned national institutions.
It is worth mentioning that the meeting ended with the formation of a founding committee comprising a group of legal experts, parliamentarians and public figures.

The committee is currently working on preparing the initial draft of the strategic framework, which will be put up for discussion through several consultative meetings, and it is expected that the strategic framework will be issued in early January 2020.
