Dr. Hossam Badrawi participates in the activities of the World Conference on Health, Population and Development

At the invitation of Ambassador Moushira Khattab, Head of the National Council for Human Rights, Dr. Hossam Badrawi participated today, Tuesday, October 22, 2024, as an expert in education, health care and human rights, in the activities of the World Conference on Health, Population and Development, which was held at the St. Regis Hotel, New Administrative Capital Conference Center, in a rich session entitled “Education, Culture, Promoting Human Rights and Integrating Comprehensive Reproductive Health and Population Issues”, where Dr. Badrawi explained that integrating comprehensive education on reproductive health and human rights is the basis for building healthier and more just societies, as it enables individuals to make informed decisions, reduces health risks, promotes gender equality, and supports social and economic development. Dr. Badrawi added that expanding this education to include beyond formal education ensures that everyone has the tools they need for a healthy life. Dr. Badrawi then moved to the cultural aspect of society, explaining that culture refers to the beliefs, values, customs, behaviors and products that members of a society share to interact with their world and with each other, which includes language, religion, traditions, arts, social norms and knowledge that is passed down through generations, shaping the way people think. They act and communicate within a particular group or society, emphasizing that culture is both a social construct and a life experience, as it affects everything, from individual identity to collective social structures. Then Dr. Badrawi explained the necessity of applying the articles of the constitution related to education and human rights and the necessity of Egypt’s Vision 2030 being clear to everyone, speaking positively about the progress achieved in the education file and the need for effort and overcoming obstacles to achieve it, stressing the necessity of focusing on the transition to decentralization in the management of institutions, explaining that sports and arts are an integral part of the process of building character, and he continued that human development and justice are the two main pillars of the progress of any nation and that education and health should be at the forefront of the priorities of the Egyptian state. Dr. Badrawi also pointed out the necessity of thinking in a different way about the population issue and moving towards enticement instead of intimidation. Then he concluded his speech by wishing everyone success for the good of the country. Dr. Hossam Badrawi participated in the discussion session with the current Minister of Culture, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, Dr. Moushira Khattab, Head of the National Council for Human Rights, Mr. Yves Sassenrath, Representative of the American Population Fund in Egypt, Dr. Issa Masarawi, Close to the National Council of Jordan, and Ms. Omnia Ibrahim, Head of the Union of Medical Students in Egypt for Youth.

About Dr. Hossam Badrawi

Dr. Hossam Badrawi
He is a politician, intellect, and prominent physician. He is the former head of the Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine Cairo University. He conducted his post graduate studies from 1979 till 1981 in the United States. He was elected as a member of the Egyptian Parliament and chairman of the Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Parliament from 2000 till 2005. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. Dr. Hossam supported the Tamarod movement in its beginning and he declared that toppling the Brotherhood was a must and a pressing risk that had to be taken few months prior to the June 30 revolution and confirmed that the army would support the legitimacy given by the people
