Dr. Hossam Badrawi Visits the General Union of Young Workers

At the invitation of the General Union of Young Workers and its president, Mr. Abdel Aziz Samir, Dr. Hossam Badrawi visited the union’s headquarters on Republic Street on Sunday, February 9, 2025. He was warmly welcomed by Mr. Abdel Aziz Samir, Mr. Ali Abu Hadeed, the union’s advisor, and committee organizers, who expressed their happiness and appreciation for his visit.

During the visit, Mr. Abdel Aziz Samir took Dr. Badrawi on a tour to introduce him to the union’s activities. The tour included a visit to the “We Can” Chefs Committee, a remarkable initiative by the union to support individuals with disabilities by training and empowering them through vocational skills, including cooking, to help them become self-reliant when necessary.

Dr. Badrawi was deeply moved by the delicious dishes prepared by children with disabilities, who gathered around him with excitement as he tasted their food. He was impressed and delighted by their enthusiasm and the quality of their work. He praised the efforts of the committee’s organizers for their dedication and hard work.

Next, Dr. Badrawi visited the Handicrafts Committee, where women are trained and provided with all necessary materials to enhance their skills and produce high-quality handmade products. He was highly impressed by the displayed products and their craftsmanship. The union supports 14 different handicrafts, taught by professional trainers, including copper and beaded accessories, gemstone jewelry, stained glass, resin art, leatherwork, embroidery, home textiles, tailoring, recycling crafts, fabric painting, candle making, wood shaving art, crochet, and concrete crafts.

Ms. Manal Hindi, head of the Handicrafts Committee, expressed her deep appreciation for Dr. Badrawi’s visit and his ongoing efforts for the country and its youth.

Dr. Badrawi then visited the Youth Committee, which focuses on educating and training young people to empower them. The union also provides job opportunities through employment fairs, connecting young workers with the job market. Dr. Badrawi engaged with the youth, asking them about their work, technological skills, and language proficiency. He also discussed the future, emphasizing the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life. He highlighted AI’s self-evolving capabilities and the necessity of leveraging it, especially in education and training.

Dr. Badrawi extended his gratitude to the committee’s leaders, Mr. Amr Abdel Hady (committee coordinator) and Mr. Ibrahim Naguib (deputy coordinator), as well as all the young participants.

Following this, Mr. Abdel Aziz Samir escorted Dr. Badrawi to the union’s theater, where various artistic activities take place. He enjoyed a national song performance by one of the union’s young talents, which he found truly impressive.

Dr. Badrawi concluded his visit by thanking Mr. Abdel Aziz Samir, his team, and the enthusiastic young individuals he met. He expressed his admiration for the inspiring atmosphere of hope and positivity he experienced throughout the day. Attendees eagerly gathered around him to take memorable photos in a warm and friendly setting.

About the General Union of Young Workers:

The General Union of Young Workers operates under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. It was established in 1967 to promote cultural, artistic, sports, and vocational activities among young workers. The union was relaunched in 2019 and currently has 28 branches across Egypt. Its objectives include:

About Dr. Hossam Badrawi

Dr. Hossam Badrawi
He is a politician, intellect, and prominent physician. He is the former head of the Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine Cairo University. He conducted his post graduate studies from 1979 till 1981 in the United States. He was elected as a member of the Egyptian Parliament and chairman of the Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Parliament from 2000 till 2005. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. Dr. Hossam supported the Tamarod movement in its beginning and he declared that toppling the Brotherhood was a must and a pressing risk that had to be taken few months prior to the June 30 revolution and confirmed that the army would support the legitimacy given by the people
