Hossam Badrawi, writer and political thinker, said that the goal of politics is pluralism to enrich partisan life with different ideas, and the presence of the opposition represents a stage of democratic maturity for societies, adding that if a single coalition list emerges for the upcoming elections, it will have negative effects on the opposition’s presence in the councils. Parliamentary.
Badrawi added to Al-Bawaba News that the idea of launching a single list will have a significant negative impact on political and partisan life due to the absence of the opposition’s role in the political scene, and even if the opposition is found, it will be a small number that will also distance it from exercising its rights.
He continued, “I fear that a single coalition list will emerge in the upcoming elections and we will return to the socialist system or the time of the National Party, and that the opposition will become an enemy and this is a danger to democracy.”
The writer and political thinker pointed out that some freedoms must be granted to political parties to give the partisan opposition the opportunity to exercise their role for the sake of building and not for the sake of the opposition. He continued: “It is not possible to repeat the same method in the same way and wait for different results.”
Badrawi stressed that the political arena is crowded with more than 100 parties, which have not played their role in developing political awareness in society, and have not been able to have the required parliamentary representation, and the upcoming elections are an opportunity for the parties to prove themselves.
