My Beloved Mother
By Hossam Badrawi
Mama, mama, mama, mama
My beloved mother
Not only on Mother’s Day
But every day
You were the gentle breeze around me,
And you still are.
The music in my soul,
A presence we all felt without intrusion,
A warmth we turned to without invitation,
Without pressure.
Your love was the anchor of our relationships,
Binding the emotions of four generations in your embrace.
Mother,
You are unique in your tenderness,
Your kindness, and your simplicity.
No one in the family ever disagreed —
You were the sweetest,
The most beautiful
Among all the girls and women in our family.
For over ninety-eight years,
You gave us the same feeling
Of peace and tranquility.
With you, we never knew tension
Nor anger.
You never interfered in our privacy
Or showed favoritism.
You gave your love to everyone,
As if you were a flower in a garden
Entirely of your own creation.
And so we were all embraced
By your fragrance,
Your beauty, your love, and your warmth.
Even in your departure from this life,
You were a breeze and a sense of calm.
You returned to your Creator
With peace and serenity.
I thank you, my Lord,
For the blessing you gave us
Through my mother.
You still live within us,
Our prayers and our love remain with you.
And what you left behind
Is an unparalleled legacy
Of the beauty of your presence.
Happy Mother’s Day to you,
Even now,
As you rest in the kingdom of heaven,
Enjoying God’s mercy and love.
For you were our healing balm,
And you made me
A better person.
Your son,
Hossam
