Where is the battle for the future of Egypt?
Hossam Badrawi
There is still a lot to learn about radicalization, as I have not seen enough research that sheds light on the different psychological pathways that can lead people to adopt extremist religious or political action.
Even after the 2011 revolution, I did not see research on the type of youth who were in Tahrir in the early days and their relationship with those who were present in the last days. For example, I believe that the 2013 revolution was centered on the middle class in Egypt called (the Sofa Party), which is unconventional in revolutions throughout history, but I have not read a scientific analysis confirming my belief, nor a social or statistical research on those who were in the Rabaa assembly and why?? So that we do not exaggerate or dwarf in order to create unreal impressions that are entrenched in the collective memory of society..
We need to follow a scientific approach based on social research to find out the origins of extremism and not be led by opinions that may be important but may not statistically reflect a scientific fact stemming from extensive research over a number of years.
I believe that those who find it difficult to adapt to new and changing intellectual demands or circumstances tend to adopt sharper ideological and ideological views on politics, nationalism, and religion and are more inflexible and willing to endorse violence.
Fourth and fifth generation wars are won by those who possess the tools of influence, and who are able to possess the minds and consciences of others. These are internal and global wars as well, and their impact depends on the ignorance of the recipients on the one hand and the stupidity of managing states on the other hand. Ignorance does not allow citizens to differentiate between what is true and fabricated, and it does not lead them to search for the truth, but rather to believe what has no reference, by repeating it and pushing it into the minds.

Science has proven that the impression that may be created by others becomes, after a time, a reality that does not need proof. Rather, some people defend it, revolt and fight for it. It is created from groups that seek political control, or intelligence agencies or media that have goals, and may lead nations to failure and collapse. Rather, it destroys identity, pushes him to reject his present and kills hope in his future.
The creation and feeding of extremism in Egypt is a type of war of the fourth and fifth generation to fragment the stability of society, and return the Egyptian society from modernity, which had begun before all the countries of the region at the beginning of the twentieth century, to reaction, and from civility that respects freedom of belief and respect for difference and pluralism to extremism. Religious is single-minded, and political extremism does not see a means of change except through violence and demolition. The absence of Egyptian influence with its soft and intelligent powers on the region is in the interest of those who want to dominate the capabilities of the Middle East militarily, economically and culturally.
First, let us think, who are the competitors of Egypt in terms of civilizational influence? They are Israel, Iran, Turkey and the rising Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and if we do not ally and find the foundations for an agreement between Egypt and its choices for this alliance, “and I see the closest of them are Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states,” then unfortunately Egypt’s leadership will decline even though it is the historical and future backbone of enlightenment and modernity even for them…
Second: We have to realize that only thought can resist thought, and it is the task of intellectuals and community leaders. Unfortunately, over the past decades, this battle was the task of the security services only, not only because of the laziness of civil society, but also because these agencies do not trust it and do not allow it to interfere. In what you think of as an exclusive security act. The battle, without equivocation, was in the interest of society, which led to a political collapse in 2011, through which the Muslim Brotherhood reached the hijacking of the youth revolution, and even to the rule of the country, which is the same mistake that the state may make politically, when any regime sees that it has no alternative. And that the stability of the country depends on its presence, and that freedom and change lead to chaos, although experience has shown that the rotation of civil political power is the basis for the sustainability of the country’s stability and modernity.
I observe a movement of modernity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states. I salute it, but without Egypt it will become a prey for fourth and fifth generation wars. Egypt should not brag about its role in the past that supported these countries, nor should the Gulf be arrogant and arrogant towards Egypt due to the reality of a historical moment in which its economic capabilities and political influences shrank. .
The opportunity is still ahead of us, together with mutual respect, to make the reality of the leadership of enlightenment and modernity impose itself on plots that are woven, and plans that are built, to plunder wealth and drive a wedge between peoples and rulers, and between these nations and some of them.
Extremism and terrorism are based on a failure to run great countries such as Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Sudan politically and its fuel is mostly young people, many of whom are educated and graduates of the most prestigious colleges because we did not realize the importance and vitality of building conscience and building the foundations of sustainable human development, so they fell into the abyss of extremism and violence despite the beauty and wealth of these peoples. .
Wealth does not protect the people, nor does it take the umbrella of the United States and Europe.
History lesson…
In Egypt, the conservative, reactionary Salafist ideology that infiltrated the conscience of society did not disappear after June 30. Rather, I see it becoming more widespread, and it appears clearly in the reactions of social media to the privacy of members of society and the continuation of laws such as contempt of religions, and defining citizens of their religion and not their affiliation to Egypt in Their personal card, and even the official Dar Al Iftaa has issued a fatwa on the form of women’s clothing in Egypt and what it reveals and what it hides in a precedent that has not happened before.., the only time I saw a video of it about that was in a public speech by Gamal Abdel Nasser after the July Revolution saying in it The Muslim Brotherhood’s guide asked him to veil women in Egypt, and the citizens’ reaction was laughter as if it was a joke, at Abdel Nasser’s intelligent reaction, and here we are, seventy years later, fulfilling the request of the very political Brotherhood’s guide.
The truth is that the current of modernity and enlightenment does not have a sustainable political presence in Egypt, and with every formal regime change, the reactionary current appears and grows stronger.
Those who can protect the Egyptian identity and the homeland are our youth who have been in our classrooms for 18 consecutive years. How do the planners of the fourth and fifth generation wars reach them, question their history and withdraw hope from their conscience, so they turn to demolition rather than construction?
This is what we must work on, and our effort includes developing educational, media and cultural institutions in the country.
Confronting this is not the responsibility of the security, intelligence, and oversight agencies. Rather, the responsibility lies more with the political will and administration, and coordination with civil society, media, youth, sports, culture, and education institutions that I do not see working in effective harmony in building the conscious personality.
What makes fake news and rumors have such an impact?
One of the things that drives the spread of fake news, which becomes real with its repetition, is cognitive laziness and the ease with which people see reality through the lens of their political and religious affiliations and are eager to see fake news as real because it corresponds to what they want it to be, which are things that can be avoided. Education and smart media.
The conflict that exists in the world is not between good and evil, but is always the faith of one person against the faith of another. Then religion turns into a problem instead of the primary divine goal, which is love and acquaintance, because we reduce it to only metaphysics, instructions and interpreters, not spirituality and values agreed upon by all religions.
The solution brings us back to education, its quality and methods. The issue is not only in a curriculum that is taught, nor in tablets and technology, but in coexistence within the educational institution affected by the teacher and the professor and the cultural climate they create.
Solutions are available, but they must be sustainable and not change with changing governments. The impact of long-term education is slow because it occurs over generations. And if there are wars of the fourth and fifth generation that disrupt our youth and build troubled generations that do not trust themselves, then let us look in the arena of education, and the teachers of future generations, because the real battle is there.
