“Where is the bride?!!!, Where is the horse?!!!”

“Where is the bride?!!!, Where is the horse?!!!”
I read a post by Dr. Osama El Nahhas titled Where is the bride of the birth and where is the knight and the horse in which he says:

“About a decade ago, an Egyptian Minister of Health issued a decision to ban the manufacture of Mawlid al-Nabi sweets on the grounds that they are colored with colors that are harmful to health. The bride and the horse disappeared, the Hilali epic disappeared, and symbols of popular heritage disappeared, which formed some of the conscience of Egyptian identity, and linked the young generations to the history and heritage of the nation. The craft and art of carving and making wooden molds for pouring sugar and shaping it to make the bride and the horse and decorate them disappeared.

The colors were not the reason, as there are healthy colors and organic colors from plants, but they were the excuse, and I do not think that the Minister of Health was unaware of that, and it was quickly replaced by the Chinese bride, and the knight disappeared with his sword and horse. The heritage graves also disappear with what they carry of heritage crafts and symbols of the stature of Egyptian identity In all areas.

And every year you are spectators.

So I wrote a comment:

The title of what Dr. Osama wrote could have been “Reform versus Destruction” from a broader perspective, taking into account what happened with the Mawlid doll and the horse.

It was possible to remove the damage resulting from the harmful colors and dyes that were used ignorantly by the manufacturers, as well as the sugar and its type, and protect the heritage at the same time and with creativity as well.

But this is the same thing that happens with the demolition of ancient tombs to put up road pillars and bridges for which alternative solutions can be found, and it is the same thing that happened in Montazah, Maamoura and the beaches of Alexandria, which carry the scent of the city’s history. All of it disappeared and was even destroyed, sometimes under the pretext of development, and it is the same as what I see of ugly statues made by those without imagination in the squares of Egyptian cities that possess art, history and artists who can fill all our squares with beauty… What is happening in our country cannot be a coincidence, because by repeating it in different fields it has gone beyond the definition of coincidence which is… “a rare event”, as coincidence is “the sudden agreement between a group of events, which is perceived as meaningful, with no apparent causal relationship”, but I believe here that there is a causal relationship, which denies that this is happening by chance and is the gradual destruction of Egyptian heritage. As Freud says: The unconscious is a main driver of man, and things do not happen by chance.

Freud discovered that there is no such thing as an accident or a coincidence, and he discovered how feelings, thoughts, motives, wishes and events, which may seem random, carry hidden meanings.

As experience and expertise say, there are no coincidences in politics in particular.

Heritage is an important part of the reality of peoples due to its importance in building the national character in addition to its social, economic, cultural, political and spiritual role. The current position in dealing with heritage is nothing but a reflection of the reality of current thought that reflects the state of societal division between history and modernity between supporters and opponents.

Remembering the birth of the Prophet, and thinking about the beauty of his personality and tolerance despite the claims of severity, extremism and violence in the name of Islam, and celebrating and rejoicing in Muhammad as a human being and a messenger despite the will of the group of “enemies of life”; Those who are against beauty, joy, happiness, and preserving the heritage of the people in how to show their joy, made me compile this article and share with you my happiness, inspiration and tranquility that overwhelms me when I think of my beloved “Mohammed” peace be upon him.

About Dr. Hossam Badrawi

Dr. Hossam Badrawi
He is a politician, intellect, and prominent physician. He is the former head of the Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine Cairo University. He conducted his post graduate studies from 1979 till 1981 in the United States. He was elected as a member of the Egyptian Parliament and chairman of the Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Parliament from 2000 till 2005. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. Dr. Hossam supported the Tamarod movement in its beginning and he declared that toppling the Brotherhood was a must and a pressing risk that had to be taken few months prior to the June 30 revolution and confirmed that the army would support the legitimacy given by the people
